Overview:

The Produce Buyer supports the operational core of produce merchandising, focused heavily on execution. This role owns daily replenishment, inbound coordination, supplier communication, MDM/SKU accuracy, digital shelf accuracy, and the data workflows required to keep assigned categories running smoothly. Buyer also provides foundational analytical and operational support directly to Merchant II, building the competencies required to progress into a Merchant II role over time.

Responsibilities:

Operational Execution (Primary Accountability)

  • Execute daily replenishment for assigned items, including passings, medius workflows, order validation, and issue resolution.
  • Manage inbound coordination, including supplier timing, delivery issues, quality flags, and communication with logistics and/or operations.
  • Maintain high-quality master data. including attribute accuracy and lifecycle updates.
  • Monitor and action OOS, DOH, cuts, shrink, and support with root cause analysis and remediation plans.
  • Ensure strong executional hygiene across all operational processes.

Supplier Communication & Daily Management

  • Manage day-to-day supplier communication for operational topics (orders, shortages, timing).
  • Log issues, maintain documentation, and escalate structural supplier issues to Merchant III
  • Provide clean data inputs to assist Merchant III in supplier reviews and sourcing work.

Digital Shelf Accuracy & Item Integrity

  • Conduct regular audits of digital content for assigned items, ensuring correct attributes, correct images, correct naming conventions, correct descriptions, and alignment to merchandising standards.
  • Validate digital updates following item changes, sourcing events, or category resets.

Category Support

  • Have a deep knowledge of item and category supply and demand trends. Provide insight on assortment gaps, or merchandising opportunities.
  • Perform root cause analysis for inventory, inbound, or execution issues, cause analysis for inventory, inbound, or execution issues.
  • Support limited, introductory exposure to category strategy work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 12 years in merchandising, planning, replenishment, analysis, supply chain, or produce-related roles.
  • Strong organizational skills, comfort with data, and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn digital merchandising, sourcing fundamentals, and category management principles.

Success Measures:

  • Accuracy and reliability of replenishment execution.
  • Reduction in OOS, DOH volatility, cuts, and execution errors.
  • Clean and accurate MDM/SKU data.
  • Quality and timeliness of reporting and analyses provided to Merchant II.
  • Demonstrated progression toward Merchant II competency areas.
