Position Summary
The Department of Art at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York invites applications for a Lecturer (10-month) position. Candidates should be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary art and design environment. The candidate’s pedagogical focus will entail practices of graphic communication for both digital formats and print and give equal weight to formal and conceptual issues.

The department seeks applications from graphic designers with professional knowledge of the field and an understanding of design history, methodology, and critical issues. Expertise in branding and identity, print design and digital publishing, typography and visual rhetoric, with at least three years of professional or creative activity preferred. Experience in the areas of web design, user interface and experience design (UI/UX), mobile apps, AI and ethical design practices, and emergent media/hybrid forms is a plus.

The Department of Art offers a BFA and BA in studio art and Graphic Design and an MFA focused on interdisciplinary studio practices. Candidates must be able to teach and direct work at all these levels. The candidate is expected to teach 3 courses a semester, advise students and contribute to the development of the design curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BFA, MFA or MDes in Art, Design or a related field, conferred by time of appointment.
  • Two years of non-TA teaching experience required in a college or university setting.
  • Experience in graphic design with professional knowledge in the field and an understanding of design history, methodology, and critical issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in branding and identity, print design and digital publishing, typography and visual rhetorics, with at least three years of professional or creative activity .
  • Experience in the areas of web design, user interface and experience design (UI/UX), mobile apps, AI and ethical design practices, and emergent media/hybrid forms.
