Overview
The BookOps Logistics Department is primarily responsible for receiving, processing, sorting, and delivering all new and circulating materials for 150 branches across 4 boroughs comprising the BookOps member libraries. The workload volume for the Logistics Department is exceptionally high. In FY-25, over a million new materials were received and processed, and over 6 million circulating items were sorted and delivered. These materials are selected to meet the needs of New York's communities. This service level supports countless projects aligned with reading, learning, and Innovation within the member libraries.

This Collections Processing Assistant II serves four departments within Logistics Operations: Receiving and Processing, Sorting, MyLibrary NYC, and Distribution. The main function of this role is to ensure the timely delivery of library materials to the BookOps member libraries. The major steps involved in this process are receiving, transporting, processing, shelving, sorting, and delivering library materials in an accurate and timely manner. A Collections Processing Assistant II can work across any of these four areas.
Responsibilities
Reporting to a Senior Collections Processing Associate (Supervisor), the Collections Processing Assistant II:

- Works with manual and automated systems to sort library materials, supplies, and inter-branch mail accurately.
- Prepares print and non-print library materials for circulation (open boxes, vet, separate and shelve new materials, item record creation, labeling materials, cover library books for preservation, etc.) and is required to meet daily departmental expectations.
- Prepare print and non-print materials for research materials (open boxes, vet, separate and shelve new materials, label materials, cover library books for preservation, and check out items to Recap.
- Prepare both print and non-print library materials for MyLibraryNYC, including linking and processing teacher sets, fulfilling requests, managing set returns, and conducting shelf and collection inventory.
- Receives and vets materials in the Integrated Library System (ILS).
- Transports book trucks and other containers to designated locations.
- Data entry and record maintenance.
- Open cartons and shelves of vendor supplies for operational usage as directed.
- Separates designated materials and stages them for delivery within BookOps Logistics Operations: Receiving and Processing, Sorting, MyLibraryNYC, and Distribution.
- Works on specialized projects as they arise as directed.
- When necessary, works within other Bookops units to provide service to our patrons.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education & Certifications
- HS Diploma or GED
Required Experience
- Experience working in a high-volume warehouse environment is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in organizing and handling detailed work tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Drive.
- Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
