Job Summary:
Supports Oswego Health Medical Practice revenue cycle functions with primary focus on coding accuracy, education and related process improvements. Provides education to practice leadership and staff on revenue cycle procedures including patient registration and insurance changes. Annually reviews changes to physician billing and provides education to practice leadership and physicians. Serves as liaison between practice leadership and billing to improve revenue cycle procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coding
- Educates practices and medical staff on CPT code changes both annually and ongoing
- Assists practices in development of accurate documentation templates for medical staff
- Coordinates with practice site leadership, medical staff, billing to implement system changes
- Collaborates with practice leadership and billing
- Identifies areas for improvements and implements solutions with practice leadership and billing
- Conducts coding audits
- Coordinates annual compliance and auditing of coding
- Patient Registration
- Develop policies and procedures for patient registration to ensure consistency across all practices
- Train Site Managers and registration staff in registration policy and procedures and serve as a point of contract for site managers to assist in problem resolution
- Educate practices on changes to insurance plans and use of technology to verify insurance coverage

- Serves as liaison between practice leadership and billing to improve revenue cycle procedures.
- Coordination of the flow of information between the billing department and operational leadership
- Maintain knowledge of state, federal, and contracted third party regulations for billing and reimbursement for all payers.
- Participate in insurance company ongoing meetings and monitor changes in insurance policy for providing education to practice leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with patients, physicians and employees.
- Ability to provide technical education to medical staff
- Proactive and independent, with the ability to take initiative.
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to billing practices.
Education and Experience:
Minimum high school graduate. Certified professional coder. Minimum five years of billing and coding experience in multi-specialty medical practices.
Working Conditions:
- Extended periods of sitting, using standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, phones, scanners, fax machines, printers, etc.
- Ability to travel to individual practices to meet medical staff and practice leadership, in-person attendance at meetings and remote work
- Occasionally requires prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Attendance ensures that job requirements are met.
- Actively participates in Quality Assurance programs and CQI, in-service programs, cross-training; completes department specific requirements/competencies; attends all mandatory classes as required; participates in meetings and committees as assigned.
- Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.
Pay Range: $62,400-$76,960/annual
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
